SoundCloud Voices this week features sport podcasts and sport teams using the platform. Like Chelsea FC, James Allen’s F1 podcast and the Golden State Warriors. Take a listen to the Warriors latest podcast and listen to more on the blog!
SoundCloud Voices this week features some radio producers and their side projects. For example Jody Avirgan who has started a show called Ask Roulette. A live event where you bring a question to ask a random person. People then are randomly called up to ask and receive questions, while Jody records the whole process. It’s very entertaining! Take a listen on the blog for more on Jody and our other voices members Scott Bliss and Gerry Hadden.
I don’t like Tyler the Creator or Odd Future, why? Because the beats are bad and the lyrics are just ok. There seems to have been a big fuss about this BBC news night piece about them, pointing out how old fashioned the coverage is. What did you expect? Sure they pick up on silly things like them saying they don’t pay taxes, but personally, they are picking up on that because there is very little else to talk about here. Odd Future are not very good. They have lyrics that middle aged people don’t like and they give away their records but pay a lot for merch. What else is there to say about them. Compare em to Wu Tang and you’ll see my point. They are one dimensional.
Barça’s 30 passes.
The day after we had a decent discussion focusing on possession not always leading to substance, Barcelona exhibited exactly how you can pass a team to death, and complete such exquisite sequences with an end product. The blaugrana were in great form when they traveled to Zaragoza, gliding to a 4-1 victory. But the 4th goal was yet another lesson for us all to learn from.
Of course, most teams cannot replicate how Thiago (his pass was the true catalyst), Pedro, and Messi combined to create the goal, but 30 passes strung together serve as an excellent example of tiki-taka’s potential effectiveness even when being implemented against a well-disciplined opponent. This is a worthy project!
1. What do you propose to do? [20 words]
1. Build a national correspondent network of South African youth radio journalists who broadcast, collaborate, and share content across radio stations.
2. Is anyone doing something like this now and how is your project different? [30 words]
1. This new model integrates pre-existing audio platforms (SoundCloud, VoIP Drupal, Hindenberg audio editing software) to enable community-based youth radio reporters to produce and distribute well-informed news content aimed at youth.

Anthony Shadid, a brilliant journalist who dedicated his career to covering the events in the Middle East sadly passed last week, while in Syria, from an asthma attack. Today SoundCloud Voices takes a look at some of the new organisations who have paid tribute to him posting various recordings of the man himself and recollection from colleagues. Democracy Now, ICFJ and KCRW are our featured users over on the blog.
